Hospital Kindness Cart Featuring Memorable Pets

We are so proud to have been selected and featured in Greenwich Hospitals' Kindness Cart It is a 206 bed hospital are located in Greenwich Connecticut. They are a major academic affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine and a member of the Yale New Haven Health System.

Greenwich Hospital created a "Kindness Cart" to help seniors who come into the hospital for an illness or a procedure. The cart is managed by the hospital's volunteer program. Ten types of Memorable Pets (4 cats and 6 dogs) are on the cart as part of their "Adopt a Pet" program. If you have a side illness of Alzheimer's or dementia, you can adopt a Memorable Pet for your stay and take it home with you!  The pets are used to help reduce stress, comfort and soothe the patients. They also provide tactile stimulation and help to satisfy the need to nurture. It is important to realize that as Alzheimer's disease progresses into the mid-late stages, the strong need to nurture and care for something increases. It is one of the very last emotions to go.

Greenwich Hospital's Kindness Cart program was recently featured on Channel 12 tv news in Greenwich. To learn more about their program please follow the You Tube link below:
